FOR COP’S SAKE! - SKATEBOARD ART X CLIMATE ACTION

FOR COP’S SAKE! - SKATEBOARD ART X CLIMATE ACTION

Route One and re:ply skateboards are coming together to host “For Cop’s Sake!” from 1st - 12th November 2021 at Route One's store, 254 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow.

“For Cop’s Sake!” aims to send a message from the skate community to world leaders, gathered in Glasgow, to take the bold steps required now, for all our sakes and to raise money for the Environmental Justice Foundation to battle climate inequality.

The store will be transformed on the 1st November from a retailer of skateboards, clothing and footwear, into a Skateboard Art Showroom, displaying artwork donated by Skate Artists, from around the world, for COP26.

The works capture the artists’ response to the Climate Crisis and send a message from the skate community to world leaders, to take the bold steps required now, for all our sakes!

The show will culminate in an online auction on Friday 12th November at 6pm (GMT), hosted by Forum Auctions. 100% of the proceeds from the Auction will go to Environmental Justice Foundation (Charity No. 1088128).

The Environmental Justice Foundation is a charity working to address climate injustice by exposing environmental human rights abuses and defending the vulnerable communities that bear the brunt of the climate crisis.

“EJF is all about bringing people together to defend our shared human right to a safe and secure natural environment. We know that climate change can sometimes feel too big, too complex, or too costly to tackle.

“For Cop’s Sake!” aims to help save the future by inspiring and uniting some of the next generation of climate activists committed to halting global heating and the storms, floods, fires, and droughts it creates.

Together, we call on our political and business leaders to have the vision and ambition for a better future and to understand that investing in a zero-carbon future is the biggest cost-saving of all time. Let’s make Glasgow the city where the world agrees on a turning point, not a tipping point for our planet.

We are truly delighted to be partnering with Route One and re:ply on this unique and amazing project. Not only will “For Cop’s Sake!” raise vital funds for EJF’s climate campaign, but it will also take our shared message of hope to the very heart of Glasgow and countless people beyond.

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is a UK-registered charity (1088128) working internationally to Protect People and Planet. EJF works to secure environmental justice – protecting the people and communities most at risk from the destruction of their natural world.

EJF investigates, films, exposes and campaigns: to end illegal, unsustainable fishing and human trafficking in seafood supply chains; for a zero-carbon future and legal protection for climate refugees; and for sustainable fashion. We partner, train and support communities and environmental defenders in the Global South who are dedicated to protecting biodiversity and the natural world, helping them to expose the problems that threaten their own human rights.”

Statement from Environmental Justice Foundation

“Each “For Cop’s Sake!” deck has a history – they’ve been loved, skated, battered and donated to Route One’s Deckcycle scheme. From there they’ve been sanded down and tidied up by re:ply, and finally they’ve been given new life by skate artists worldwide.

It’s about time we started thinking more about the impact of the products we use and throw away day-to-day, and by using what would have otherwise been landfill waste as a canvas, the decks exhibited in “For Cop’s Sake!” promote a message of circularity, which is a vital component to securing a sustainable future.

COP 26 is set to be the most important climate conference to date, and future generations will see it as either a turning or tipping point. For 12 short days, the world’s leaders will gather to decide the planet’s fate and our future and Glasgow will become the centre for climate debate and affirmative action. Let’s hope we can tip the scales in favour of the planet and its people.”
