A skate shop is more than just a place to buy your gear, it’s also a space for people to come and chat about all things skateboarding in a welcoming environment. We’re proud to employ passionate skaters who can give you the run down on the local scene. Along with knowledgeable staff, we have a fantastic shop team full of up-and-coming rippers. You will often find them representing Route One at contests on a local and national level. If you’re new in town and looking for a place to get your skate on, we’d love to point you in the right direction! Here’s 3 of our favourite spots in the city...

Skate Spots

Saughton Skatepark – Regardless of your ability level, you’ll find something to skate here. This park has everything you could dream of, from the smallest ledge to the biggest transitions. It’s accessible by tram and takes around 20 minutes from Princess Street.

Bristo Square – This is the main meet-up spot in the city centre, where you can usually find groups of skaters hanging out during the day. The square has ledges, a couple of stair sets and plenty of flat ground. Unfortunately, during the month of August, the square is occupied for the Fringe festival, so keep that in mind.

Portobello Skatepark – This is a smaller park located just outside the city in the coastal town of Portobello. It’s super smooth and all the ramps are nice and mellow, making it an ideal park for a chilled-out session. The beach is a short walk away so it’s an amazing place to be in the summertime. It’s accessible by bus and takes roughly half an hour from Princess street.

Meet the local skate team

Edinburgh Store has been hit with a group of new faces and we could not be more stoked to have these guys riding for the shop! Ross is a transition animal; when he's not making loud noises with his trucks, he tends to be reverberating the skatepark with his witty comments over the megaphone. Dan and Cailean, the terrible twosome, can be found flying around the gaff hitting every obstacle in sight with both style and grace. Max is the young gun with all the energy and talent to go alongside it. Marieme, the secret weapon, may lay low on the socials, but is putting in work at the park, pushing the women's scene in Scotland.
