Land: Skating a Chinese Megacity

Dec 2021 by Route One
Now this is something a bit out of leftfield (or the far east to be more precise).
Skaters have been visiting China for quite some time now. Though the Powell team first set foot there in the '90s,  it was in the early to mid '00s that intrepid skaters, fuelled by the hopes of finding the next Barcelona, started travelling en-masse to Shenzen with promise of endless resources of perfect granite and security free spots.

Nowadays it's almost impossible to see a major video production without a Chinese megacity back drop but, unlike other Asian nations producing world beating talent, it's rare to see actual Chinese skaters doing their thing and that's why this new piece through Jenkem is so interesting.

Filmed by Will Cui and Joe Zhou, the video chronicles a Shanghai skate crew visit to Chongqing, a municipality so vast it covers the land mass of Austria and houses three times the population. Safe to say there are more than a few spots!
